About the ECBA® Exam
No. The ECBA® is IIBA's entry-level certification and has no work experience, degree, or professional development hour requirement. It's designed for students, career-changers, and people entering business analysis. You register directly at iiba.org, pay the exam fee, and schedule via PSI Online — there's no application or eligibility review.
The current exam fee is US$395, which includes your first year of IIBA membership. If you need to resit, retake fees are US$95 for IIBA members or US$250 for non-members per attempt. Fees are set by IIBA and subject to change — always verify current pricing at iiba.org before purchasing. The exam fee is separate from this course.
50 multiple-choice questions, 75 minutes, online remote proctored via PSI. You sit from a quiet private room on a compatible personal computer — avoid company-managed devices and locked-down networks. A proctor monitors via webcam throughout. Results are available immediately upon completion.

Each lesson requires the previous one to be completed, and each module's content is locked until you submit the knowledge check quiz at the end of the preceding module. This sequencing is intentional — each module builds on the one before it, and the NexaLife case study develops progressively across all 12 modules.
NexaLife is a fictional Australian retailer running a loyalty platform transformation called Project Elevate. A junior business analyst named Jordan Kim works through every module's domain in the context of this project — eliciting needs, analysing change, mapping stakeholders, evaluating solutions, and tracking value. Every technique and task is applied to this one realistic scenario, so the concepts feel familiar — not abstract — on exam day.
Each module from M02 to M10 includes a blank activity worksheet based on the NexaLife case data, and a case briefing that gives you the context to complete it. The model answer key is gated — it only unlocks after you submit the module knowledge check quiz. Attempting your own analysis before seeing the model answers is what builds the exam-ready thinking the ECBA® tests.
Yes — and you'll still need to work through it sequentially, as lessons unlock in order. If you're already familiar with the foundations, the concept lessons will move quickly. Where you'll gain the most is Module 11, which covers all 20 BABOK-assessed techniques in full depth with applied examples, and Module 12, which includes a complete 50-question timed practice exam, domain debrief, and a Personal Gap Analysis tool to identify exactly where to focus before your sitting.
No course can guarantee an exam result — certification decisions are made solely by IIBA. What ECBA® Exam Preparation Training does is ensure you've covered every activity statement in the blueprint, applied all 20 assessed techniques in context, and completed 160 scenario-based practice questions before you sit.
